Fall Wrapup

The fall season for ASUWRFC was full of many learning opportunities through tournaments, short matches, and hard practicing. The year started with a friendly match against NAU, where a largely rookie ASU team soundly defeated the LandSharks. The next event was the Flagstaff 10's tournament, where ASU defeated UofA and suffered two close losses to the talented Scottsdale Lady Blues. After Flagstaff, there was another friendly match against Embry Riddle, located in Payson, AZ. ASUWRFC, again largely composed of rookies or 2nd year players, won the match by a margin of more than 100 points! The next match was at home against the former National Champions, Stanford University. ASUWRFC played well, and though the first to score a try, Stanford ultimately won the match by a margin of two tries. Finally, ASUWRFC travelled to San Diego to compete in the annual Scrum by the Sea tournament. Day one was unlucky, with 1 win and two close losses. It was enough to advance to Day 2, however, where ASU beat UCLA-B and UCSB to make it to the semi-finals. In another great match, UCLA defeated ASU. That's it for the fall, ASU women's rugby is now moving on to the spring conference season with a lot of confidence and a great team who are ready to work hard and win.

First practice of Fall 2007

Scrum By The Sea

ASUWRFC goes home with yet another disappointing loss in the semi-finals. We finished this weekend 3-1 with wins against San Jose State, UCLA, and Chico. Sunday we took home another win by forfeit from Sacramento State, but then ended the tournament with a 12-0 loss to UCSD. To all our players injured in this tournament, we wish you a speedy recovery.

NorCal Tour

After a fun day in San Francisco we hit the pitch for a 10's tournament. With everyone stepping up to contribute , we ended farely well with a loss to Cal Berkely in the semi-finals. This tournament was good preparation for the 15's match against Stanford on Sunday. While the tournament was a good warm-up, it proved to be only that. We suffered a big loss to Stanford but treat the game as a learning experience as we move on and look forward to Scrum by the Sea next weekend. Good news is that we exit this weekend with no major injuries.

Flagstaff 10's

ASUWRFC is back on the pitch! After a successful weekend for our rookies, our entire team hit the pitch in Flagstaff with high hopes. The rookie team finished 1-3 with close losses to three vet teams. We played hard, gave it all we could, and came out just short lacking only in experience. The vet team took second place after a disappointing loss to the Las Vegas slots. The final score was 14-7 after a try scored late in the second half by the slots. The team went 4-1 in the tournament and is looking good going into the beginning of the fall season.

RookieFest

Rookiefest was an impressive display of playing and coaching. After only a month, all the rookies proved to be a dominating force with wins against both Thunderbird and the Black Sheep of Embry Riddle. Congratualtions to everyone on a job well done, and for making it through your first weekend of rugby with few injuries. You all played well together, and things are only looking better as we head up to Flagstaff next weekend.
